Sky Train or BTS

Tagged:

The Sky Train is so called as runs on the rails parallel to the second third storey of the buildings. It is an extremely useful way of getting around in Bangkok especially during rush hours when all modes of transportation fail. The announcements inside the train are in English and easy to follow.

It costs anything between 10-40 Baht depending on the distance. As such, it is advisable for a single person while a group a 3-4 would be better off taking a Taxi as far as cost is concerned.

The trains run from 06:00 AM in the morning till midnight and are available every 5-10 minutes. As such, there are no timetables for these trains.

Check out the map given below and note that there are two lines of Sky Train (Dark Green and Light Green and they meet at Siam, which is a junction station.

It should be noted that the sky trains platforms are at great heights and stepping those giant staircases can be a one helluva task. The automatic escalators are also there at most of the stations but people with loose clothes like Sari clad women should be careful.

The sky train station covers relatively small but a good part of the city (like underground train) and it would be advisable to choose a hotel near the Sky Train or the Underground Train stations.

Take a printed map of the city (usually Hotels have one) and look for the sign , which will indicate the BTS or the sky train station. If you would like to read more about the Sky Trians, check out their official website
